Can you believe October has already come and gone? It was a very busy month here, but it’s one of my favorites. Every October, since 1994 I host a Close To My Heart Holiday Extravaganza to share DIY project ideas for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas festivities. For weeks before Holiday extravaganza I create new projects, so that I can share as many new ideas for gift giving, decorating, gift wrap and tags, table settings, card making, mini albums, stocking stuffers, and scrapbooking as I can. It’s my favorite event of the year, complete with Christmas trees, lights, Candy Cane Cookies, and holiday music. I invite my Close To My Heart customers, family, and friends to come enjoy their first Christmas party of the year to kick off the season, and we have so much fun.

Here is just a sprinkling of some of the projects at Holiday Extravaganza this year.

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing many of these projects with you here on my blog. There will be Workshops in the Boise area that you can attend to enjoy some creative time here making your projects.  For those of you who live long distance, watch for Workshop Kits and Workshop Guides that will be available for many of the project shared at Holiday Extravaganza this year. I am really excited to keep the merriment going and share some projects to help with your holiday celebrations, too.

All of these projects feature Close To My Heart products. You can shop for your crafting and scrapbooking supplies online 24/7 at

Today I’m hanging cedar garland around the windows at my house and putting the finishing touches on the Christmas tree. Have you started decorating at you house? I love it. It’s kind of a walk down memory lane to unwrap each ornament and bring out all of the holiday things that have become part of our traditions. Each piece has a story that goes with it that reminds me of Christmas moments shared with with family and friends over the years. It’s good stuff.

Holiday Collage

I’ve  been thinking about all of those little holiday happy thoughts and I had to ask myself, “Where are those memories in my scrapbooks?” It’s pretty normal to make pages for the big holiday moments like Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, or maybe even a holiday baking day, caroling, or a Christmas party, but there is so much more to my family’s holiday story than just those big events. Really, our holiday traditions begin right after Thanksgiving with lots of little things that sprinkle holiday magic all the way through December and make Christmas time special.

So, I am going to try scrapbooking the holidays a little differently this year, and I would like to invite you to join me in some memory making fun this December.

I know December can get full and overflowing, so for me I needed to find a simple way to go about preserving more memories this year. I have decided to try a “photo-a-day” scrapbook for the  month of December using the Close To My Heart pocket page format with the White Pines Picture My Life Cards and accessories I have never scrapbooked a whole month like this before, but with this easy format it’s feeling totally do-able.

The White Pines collection of Picture My Life Cards has festive designs that include a numbered printed card for every day from December 1 – 25, plus a whole bunch of other cards that can be use for journaling and decorative accents. With the pocket pages you just slide in photos and cards and everything comes together beautifully. The cards look something like this.

White Pines PML They are super cute on their own, but they also coordinate White Pines Paper Packet and Complements making it easy to add a 12″ x 12′ cover page.  Adding Red Gems and Poppy Thick Twine  make everything even a little more festive. In the photos shown below, the white spaces are the pockets where I will add the pictures for each day.

I have also put together a December Photo-A-Day Activity sheet to make it even faster, simpler, and easier to be capturing moments each day throughout the month. I did a little research on Christmas journaling topics, other photo-a-day activities, and gave some thought to things that might be fun to document this time of year. I compiled all of that together and came up with this plan of themes or topics for a picture I’m going to take each day in December. This way I can use the topics each day instead of trying to decide what to take a pictures of along the way.

Each photo theme is designed to be personalized to tell the stories that reflect your own holiday experiences. Even if each person in my family took a picture of something that tied into the photo topic for each day, they would all be different. The variety of stories would be amazing. Just imagine the fantastic photo collection that you could have at the end of the month?

Don’t you think it would be awesome to have something that creates an overview of holiday festivities for the whole month? It isn’t that every day needs to have some big holiday thing happening in order to get a great picture. I think it’s more about preserving the every day shared moments, the sights and sounds, the something new and something old, the things that are reflective of our experiences at Christmas.

You can join in the Photo-A-Day Activity, too.

AND… if you share your photo on Facebook or Instagram

with the hashtag #SomethingAboutSharingDecember,

you will be entered in a Give-Away Drawing for $25 in Close To My Heart products.

I would love to have you join me in this Photo-A-Day memory keeping activity for December. You don’t need to have your album pages already put together to get started. You can just print off the December Photo-A-Day Activity list and begin taking pictures.

Today is the last day of school where I live and people seem very eager to embrace summertime. Everyone seems ready to enjoy those longer days, a change of pace, and summer travels. How about you? Any vacations planned? I love to travel. It truly is one of my very favorite things.

For June I have designed a set of pages that will be ready for your summer adventures and travel photos. Or, you may have travel photos from previous road trips or vacations that have been needing a place in your albums. I hope the June scrapbook layouts can help you get those awesome memories in albums where you can continue to enjoy them.

I have used the Close To My Heart Wanderful Paper Packet, Assortment, and Picture My Life Cards in my scrapbook layouts for this month. As I was designing the pages I really kept coming back to fond memories of road maps from when I was a kid. There was no GPS or MapQuest back in the day. We actually used road maps, planned out the route, and followed along on the map as we traveled from here to there. Those maps often colored with lighter shades of blues, yellows, and pinks with black lines connecting the dots. So, I added some Smoothie, Honey, and Black Cardstock to the Wanderful Paper Packet and this is what I came up with. What do you think?

If you are not familiar with Picture My Life Cards, they are definitely something worth exploring. Picture My Life Cards come in a variety of different themes that coordinate with Close To My Heart Paper Packs. While the are designed as 3″ x 4″ and 4″ x 6″ cards that you can slip into Pocket Pages for fast scrapbook pages, they are also really terrific for combining with classic scrapbooking, card making, and lots of other types of projects.

The cards are pre-printed with fantastic designs that can become colorful photo mats, instant journal spots, quick titles, and terrific themed icon embellishments. Here are a few samples on some of the cards that come in the Wanderful Picture My Life set.

If you look closely, you can see where I have incorporated the bottom three cards in the scrapbook layouts shown above. Can you find them on my pages?

And here you can see close ups of the Wanderful Assortment  that I added as accents on the pages, along with some more of the Picture My Life Cards. The Assortment has 10 adhesive-backed mix of epoxy shapes, embossed metal shapes, and painted metal shapes. They are really fun and an easy embellishment to the pages.

I am super excited to share these scrapbook layouts with you this month. As a special bonus this month, I thought I would help us all out by including half of a Wanderful Picture My Life Card package with the Workshop Kits, along with one Pocket Page Protector that you can used to just slide your extra pictures and cards into for some story extension spaces. I don’t know about you, but I tend to always have an abundance of pictures when I travel. The Pocket Pages area a perfect solution to lots of photos.

You can put the Pocket Page behind your classic scrapbook pages or even sandwich it in between a layout in your album. They are fabulous for adding more of the pictures that make you smile without needing to create additional full layouts for all of your photographs. I think you will really like the simplicity of combining the Picture My Life in with your pages.

That means, by including the front and back of the Pocket Page Protector and Picture My Life Cards you will get 8 pages of scrapbooking fun with the June Scrapbook Workshop.

You can sign up to attend a Scrapbook Workshop if you live in the Boise area, or you can order a Scrapbook Workshop Kit and I’ll drop it in the mail to you with instructions on how to put it all together. Either way, with these scrapbook pages you can say, “Ready. Set. Go.” to more travel adventures and fun memory making this summer.
