Today I’m hanging cedar garland around the windows at my house and putting the finishing touches on the Christmas tree. Have you started decorating at you house? I love it. It’s kind of a walk down memory lane to unwrap each ornament and bring out all of the holiday things that have become part of our traditions. Each piece has a story that goes with it that reminds me of Christmas moments shared with with family and friends over the years. It’s good stuff.

Holiday Collage

I’ve  been thinking about all of those little holiday happy thoughts and I had to ask myself, “Where are those memories in my scrapbooks?” It’s pretty normal to make pages for the big holiday moments like Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, or maybe even a holiday baking day, caroling, or a Christmas party, but there is so much more to my family’s holiday story than just those big events. Really, our holiday traditions begin right after Thanksgiving with lots of little things that sprinkle holiday magic all the way through December and make Christmas time special.

So, I am going to try scrapbooking the holidays a little differently this year, and I would like to invite you to join me in some memory making fun this December.

I know December can get full and overflowing, so for me I needed to find a simple way to go about preserving more memories this year. I have decided to try a “photo-a-day” scrapbook for the  month of December using the Close To My Heart pocket page format with the White Pines Picture My Life Cards and accessories I have never scrapbooked a whole month like this before, but with this easy format it’s feeling totally do-able.

The White Pines collection of Picture My Life Cards has festive designs that include a numbered printed card for every day from December 1 – 25, plus a whole bunch of other cards that can be use for journaling and decorative accents. With the pocket pages you just slide in photos and cards and everything comes together beautifully. The cards look something like this.

White Pines PML They are super cute on their own, but they also coordinate White Pines Paper Packet and Complements making it easy to add a 12″ x 12′ cover page.  Adding Red Gems and Poppy Thick Twine  make everything even a little more festive. In the photos shown below, the white spaces are the pockets where I will add the pictures for each day.

White Pines PML Cover PM

White Pines PML PM

I have also put together a December Photo-A-Day Activity sheet to make it even faster, simpler, and easier to be capturing moments each day throughout the month. I did a little research on Christmas journaling topics, other photo-a-day activities, and gave some thought to things that might be fun to document this time of year. I compiled all of that together and came up with this plan of themes or topics for a picture I’m going to take each day in December. This way I can use the topics each day instead of trying to decide what to take a pictures of along the way.

December Photo A Day Hashtag

Each photo theme is designed to be personalized to tell the stories that reflect your own holiday experiences. Even if each person in my family took a picture of something that tied into the photo topic for each day, they would all be different. The variety of stories would be amazing. Just imagine the fantastic photo collection that you could have at the end of the month?

Don’t you think it would be awesome to have something that creates an overview of holiday festivities for the whole month? It isn’t that every day needs to have some big holiday thing happening in order to get a great picture. I think it’s more about preserving the every day shared moments, the sights and sounds, the something new and something old, the things that are reflective of our experiences at Christmas.

You can join in the Photo-A-Day Activity, too.

AND… if you share your photo on Facebook or Instagram

with the hashtag #SomethingAboutSharingDecember,

you will be entered in a Give-Away Drawing for $25 in Close To My Heart products.

I would love to have you join me in this Photo-A-Day memory keeping activity for December. You don’t need to have your album pages already put together to get started. You can just print off the December Photo-A-Day Activity list and begin taking pictures.

To put together your pocket scrapbook pages and be ready to add your pictures, you can order the supplies listed below on my website by clicking here, or contact me for a Workshop Kit.

December Photo-A-Day Workshop Kit – $42 (plus tax and shipping)

Workshop Kit Includes:

Joining in this project together we can be sharing December moments together, spreading a little Christmas cheer, and encourage each other to be preserving our stories throughout the holidays. Happy memory making! It’s going to be awesome.

Who says shopping for “Back-To-School” supplies is just for kids and teachers? It’s true I do not have children at home anymore, and I’m no longer a full-time Elementary School Teacher. However, every year I still enjoy walking up and down the school supply aisles. It’s one of my favorite things about this back-to-school time of year. There’s just nothing quite like a brand new box of color crayons, sharp pencils with erasers, fresh new markers, and a new Pee-Chee folder, of course. You know what I mean. It’s good stuff.

When you open a new box of crayons they simply look fabulous. The tops of the crayons are all even, the paper wrappers are crisp, and they are just waiting to bring the magic of color to your very next project. It’s kind of exciting, like, “Oh, the beautiful things I will make with these.” Possibilities everywhere!

I think that’s what back-to-school time is, in a way. It’s that new beginning of possibilities, an open door for more adventures, and everything that a new year of learning, exploring, and enjoying shared experiences can bring. It’s a new box of crayons and school supplies that are all ready for creating the next thing.

Are you ready for creating your next thing?

Traditional back-to-school basic supplies might look something like this…

School Supply Collage

Your updated basic supplies might look something like this…

Supplies Collage 4

Some new glue, scissors, a Mini Stapler and markers can be terrific resources for helping you along in your creative happy place.

I’ve been doing some creating and coloring with my ShinHan markers, and other NEW Close To My Heart products, but you have to wait until the new Close To My Heart Annual Inspirations Idea Book goes live on Sept. 1 to see those. In the meantime, here are a couple of simple gift enclosure cards that I made. Just stamp in black, color, and layer on cardstock. So quick and so colorful.

Markers Cuddly Salutations PM

Have you tried the ShinHan Touch Twin Markers yet? They color beautifully. These markers have dual tips with an alcohol-based ink that helps them to blend smoothly without streaks. You can also build color up or even take color away with the coordinating Blender Marker. The special ink formula also lets you add color to more than just paper. You can color on top of neutral colored Close To My Heart accessories like Shimmer Trim, Sparkles, and Sequins to make them whatever color you need to coordinate with your projects. With 24 different colors to choose from in the CTMH ShinHan color palette you have so many options. Just imagine having 24 different shades of Shimmer Trim. Fantastic!

If you’re like me, you enjoy having lots of coloring options. That’s one of the tricky parts about choosing a box of color crayons, right? Do you get the box of 24, 48, or 64… oh my goodness, the choices.

I thought I would help you out with putting together a collection of ShinHan markers and I’ll give you some free colors along the way.

For every 5 ShinHan Markers you purchase through me,

you get a 6th ShinHan marker FREE.

When you have all 24 colors, I will also give you a free Blender Marker. That will help you add to your colors a little bit faster and save you $30 on your full set.

To make it easier to remember which colors you have, when you order ShinHan markers through me, I’ll send you a chart to keep track of the marker colors you have ordered and a color swatch chart for you to use as a reference when you are choosing colors for your projects. I have my color swatch chart out every time I use my ShinHan markers to make it easier to see which color I want to work with. You can order ShinHan markers on my website by clicking here or contacting me at Michelle@SomethingAboutSharing.com.

Marker Charts Collage

I think you will enjoy coloring with these markers for so many different kinds of projects. As you choose some colors to start with, remember that the Marker Roll-Ups are available to help organize all of your colors, too.

Roll-Up Marker

The organizer holds all 24 marker colors with room for a Blender Marker, too. It rolls up into one handy little case making it easy to store your markers and making them very portable. There is even a hanging loop inside the organizer for easy vertical storage if that fits your space better. Having the perfect container to organize your markers is right up there with something to hold all of the school supplies inside student desks. The Marker Roll-Up is designed to help you have a place for everything, and everything in it’s place.

In August you can get a FREE “Balloon Wishes” Stamp Set when you purchase the Marker Roll-Up, so if you are thinking about picking up some new colors, this is a great time to begin organizing, as well. By itself, the stamp set would be $17.95, however, it’s free until August 31 when you purchase a Marker Roll-Up.

Balloon Wishes

It’s great fun to add a splash of color to your projects and having those essential supplies at your fingertips is important. If you enjoy new creative resources, having the right tools ready for the next project, and creating new things, here are a couple of specials that you might find helpful.

Back-To-School Specials

While I might not be teaching in a classroom anymore, I still look at this time of year with with anticipation for new experiences, changes, learning, exploring, creating, making memories, and keeping memories. It’s all such good stuff. Enjoy the magic of a new box of crayons, or new markers, or whatever creative resources get you excited about making the next thing happen. It’s a great season.

Sometimes I’m going through the week, getting all the “have-to’s” done and I just feel like I need to do something creative. Does that ever happen to you? There is something about having a creative outlet that is calming and relieves some of the stress of the day. Tapping into your creative side is kind of refreshing and refueling, not to mention a lot of fun.

For me, getting creative can include a lot of different types of activities. It could be making a card to send to a friend, catching up on some photos on my computer with digital scrapbooking, trying a new recipe for dinner, painting an old piece of furniture to give it a whole new look, or any number of things. I really enjoyed when my kids were small and we would color, build with Legos, or decorate cookies. Kids are great at adding a creative twist to just about anything. What kinds of things make you feel creative?

I have been enjoying some terrific creative time with the brand new Close To My Heart Artistry Cricut Cartridge. Wow…it is overflowing with possibilities.

What makes this cartridge unique? Well, to start, there are over 700 new designs to choose from. I love all of the simple layering options, the addition of animals, cameras, cool trendy shapes, and a funky new font. There are a lot of options for layering messages, icon images, main focus pieces, and so much more. You just set your size dial to one measurement one time, cut the layers in the colors you choose, and they stack right on top of each other to add color and dimension to each piece. Here are some examples so you can see what I mean.

Zoe Collage 2 PM

Would you like to see a few of my first projects with this cartridge?

Here’s a scrapbook layout and a card featuring the fabulous new cake and some of the celebration die-cuts.

Zoe Scrapbook Workshop PM

Cricut Artistry Cartridge Scrapbook Workshop

I love being able to make the cake in any color, and with any color of frosting? Did you have a chocolate cake with dark chocolate frosting at your party? No problem. Try a Chocolate Cardstock base and a Cocoa Cardstock overlay for the frosting. It’s so easy.

Chocolate Cake PM

Hear are a few cards using some of the same die-cut shapes in different sizes, along with some different designs. How about that monkey? The Artistry Cricut Cartridge has several really cute animals designs.

Zoe Card Workshop PM

Cricut Artistry Cartridge Card Workshop

Like I said, there are so many options. I was just getting warmed up with these projects. I made all of these cards, bags, and scrapbook pages using the paper in the new CTMH Zoe Paper Packet with Coral Shimmer Trim accents. I did add a little Chocolate & Cocoa Cardstock to make the monkey, though.

The Close To My Heart Artistry Cricut Cartridge comes in a terrific collection with three exclusive stamps sets and a combo pack of cardstock featuring the new Enchantment color palette. It’s a really terrific package and even a great deal. You get the cartridge with all 700 designs along with the three stamp sets and cardstock for only $99. (Retail value about $120)

Artistry

There is actually a new option for all of you Cricut Explore or Cricut Explore Air folks. You can get Artistry in a digital format. The Cricut Artistry Digital Collection still comes with the same stamps and cardstcok, however the 700 images are accessed using an online code instead of a physical cartridge. Since it does not come with the actual cartridge, it also does not come with the booklet of images. If you are working primarily digitally AND with Explore machines this can be a nice option. This collection is only $79.

I am really enjoying the creative outlet this cartridge has been lately. I’m thinking it could be a terrific creative outlet for you, too. To help you enjoy some creative time in your world, I have a special offer to share with you, complete with projects all ready to put together.

Artistry Workshop Kit Special

When you purchase the brand new Close To My Heart Artistry Cricut Collection on my website between now and September 1, 2015, I will send you one of the Workshop Kits shown above, absolutely FREE.

Both workshop kits come with the supplies and instructions to make the projects you see in the pictures above. Choose from…

  • …the Scrapbook Workshop Kit to make the two page “Eat Cake” layout and the coordinating card.
  • …the Card Workshop Kit to make five complete cards.

What do you think? Would you like to make a scrapbook layout or a set of fun cards? Wouldn’t it feel great to enjoy a creative outlet with project pieces already prepared, PLUS a new Cricut Cartridge to play with?

This special offer is only available through me and until September 1, 2015.

Just click here and it will take you right to where you can order the Close to My Heart Artistry Cricut Collection on my website. Shopping online is easy and creating will be, too, when your Artistry Cartridge and Workshop Kit arrives at your doorstep.

Once you have ordered your Artistry Collection, email me at

Michelle@SomethingAboutSharing.com

to let me know if you would like a Scrapbook Workshop Kit or a Cardmaking Kit.

These items will ship separately from your cartridge, as they will be coming directly from me.

Here’s to a fabulous new creative outlet full of possibilities. And remember…it’s not all about paper. Watch for other ways to use your Artistry Cricut Cartridge this fall.

Enjoy! Michelle

Can you ever share too many smiles? I don’t thing so.

This week I am creating with a special stamp set called, “You’re The Bomb.” It’s a great stamp set with 18 individual images, encouraging messages, and terrific accent designs. Here’s a picture of the whole set.

You're The Bomb

Today I want to show you how to make a fun treat box that you can use to share a smile with a neighbor, your co-workers at the office, as party favors, or even put one in your mailbox to say thanks to your mail carrier. Everyone can use a little extra happy in their day.

The treat box looks like this when it’s all put together and ready to give to a friend. It is unbelievably easy to put together, and it’s a perfect size to be filled with lots of different types of fun things.

You're The Bomb Treat Box PM

This particular treat box is actually a die-cut shape on the Close To My Heart Artiste Cricut Cartridge. This cartridge has lots of different types of 3-D boxes, bags, and containers in addition to fun shapes, a fabulous font and a over 700 designs all together. The box I chose is found on page 35 in the cutting guide book.

CTMH Artiste Box Collage

Not only did Close To My Heart come up with bunches of great die-cut designs for this cartridge, they also made it super easy make these dimensional projects by adding an additional instruction book to the package. On the right side of the photo shown above, you can see that the second book shows you where to score each design, how to fold it, assemble, and even where to add glue when needed. It’s so helpful.

Once I chose the box shape I wanted to use and cut it out on my Cricut machine, then I just followed these simple steps to put the box together. It’s incredibly quick and easy.

Step 1-2 Box Collage

Step 1 – Score the box die-cut on the fold lines indicated by small cuts made by the Cricut machine during cutting. I like to use the Close To My Heart Score Board to get straight, even lines.

Step 2 – Add accent papers, stamped images, and messages to the front. This is where I had fun personalizing the message on the treat boxes with the “You’re The Bomb” Stamp Set. There are so many word combinations to choose from.

Steps 3-4 Box Collage

Step 3 – Fold end and side pieces in toward the center. Interlock the tabs. No glue needed.

Step 4 – Fill with treats, bring handles up to the center and tie with ribbon. Sometimes I use adhesive-backed mini Hook and Loop Dots to hold the handles together.

Pretty easy, right? Definitely so true.

The colors I used for this treat box are Canary, Thistle, and Pacifica. I really like how simple it is to make fun and personalized projects with the the Close To My Heart products. So many great resources.

YTB Accessory Supplies PM

The “You’re The Bomb” Stamp Set that I’ve been using with this week is extra special. Not only does it help me create encouraging treats for the people in my every day, it also gives me the opportunity to be a part of making a difference to children around the world through Operation Smile… and you can, too.

For every “You’re The Bomb” set that is purchased, Close To My Heart donates $3 directly to Operation Smile to help provide cleft lip and cleft palette surgeries for children in need. You can learn more about Operation Smile in my post yesterday or by clicking here.

All of the products that I used to make these boxes and the card I shared yesterday can be ordering through my online shopping. Just click here to see all of the Close To My Heart products, shop online, and have it ship directly to your front door. Keep in mind that the “You’re The Bomb” Stamp Set is only available until March 31.

AND…

that includes a “You’re The Bomb” Stamp Set you will

receive a FREE mini stamp set and a hand-stamped card

from me as a thank you for helping to share more smiles

and change the world of children around the world.

The stamp sets will be randomly selected and may include designs like the ones shown here.

Mini Stamp Collage

So can you think of three people who might enjoy receiving a little treat box from you? How about a cheerful card?

If your weeks are like mine, it’s easy to get too busy. Join me this week in being intentional about brightening each day by sharing some encouraging words and smiles to the people around me.

And when you think about smiles, remember the children that we can help along the way with stamp sets from Close To My Heart. I love working with a company that cares so much about making a difference in the lives of children and families.

It’s amazing the difference something as simple as a smile can make. Don’t you agree? Just think about the impact a smile has on your day. A smile can be a friendly hello, a moment of encouragement, or even just a little bit of happy in someone’s day. It can share a vote of confidence, give a little extra assurance, or even a applaud a job well done. Even without any words, I find a smile can say a lot.

As I think about how powerful it can be to share a smile, or receive a smile, I am often reminded what a great thing it is to be a part of making a difference in the lives of children through Close To My Heart’s partnership with Operation Smile.

If you are not familiar with Operation Smile, it is an international medical charity that provides cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries for children around the world. With volunteer medical teams they are making it possible for many children to receive safe surgeries and treatments that are bringing new hope for a healthier life and a brighter future.

You can learn more about Operation Smile and see pictures of the children and families whose lives have been changed by the gift of a smile on their website. Just click here. What they do is amazing as they transform the lives of children around the world, one smile at a time. I get goosebumps every time.

As a company, Close To My Heart is committed “touching hearts and changing lives.” To take an active roll in sharing smiles for children, Close To My Heart donates a portion of the proceed of every My Acrylix Stamp Set to Operation Smile. That means every time you purchase a Close To My Heart stamp set you are contributing to providing a surgery for another child.

Close To My Heart also designs special, limited edition stamp sets that you can purchase which sends $3 per stamp set directly to Operation Smile. The special stamp set available right now is called, “You’re The Bomb,”  and I’ve been doing a little creating to share some extra happy mail and treats this month. I love the positive words that are included in the set.

You're The Bomb

Here’s one of my projects that features this stamp set. I really like the font used for the words and the way you can piece together different personalized messages.

You're The Bomb Card PM

I especially wanted this card to feel like sunshine in your mailbox so I used the bright bold colors from the Close To My Heart Brushed Paper Packet.

Brushed Paper Packet

To add some extra texture I used the Close To My Heart “Vine” Embossing Folder on Canary Cardstock. I really like the pattern and raised images from dry embossing. I think the vine designs adds to the springtime feel of the card.

Vine Emb Folder PM

Join me in being part of sharing smiles with your friends and family, as well as sharing smiles through Operation Smile by purchasing the “You’re The Bomb” stamp set this week through my online shopping page. The stamp set includes 18 individual stamps images for only $13.95, and it is only available until March 31.

As a little thank you from me this week, when you place an order through my online shopping that includes the “You’re The Bomb” Stamp Set by March 31, I will send some happy mail your way, too. You will receive a hand stamped card and a free mini stamp set directly from me.

These are examples of some of the stamp sets I’ll be mailing out. Stamps sets are randomly chosen and will sprinkle a little creative fun in your crafting projects.

Mini Stamp Collage

Shopping Close To My Heart is easy. You can view the whole Close To My Heart product line and enjoy a wonderful creative resource by clicking here. All of the products I used to make the card above can be purchased on my website. And remember to order a “You’re The Bomb” Stamp Set to receive your free gift from me.

For only $240 Operation Smile can provide a surgery for another child that gives them a new smile and a new life. I really believe we can make a difference when we join together in a common goal, and giving a little bit here and there adds up to a miracle for someone else.

I like knowing that when I share a smile when I’m out for a walk, or when someone receives one of these cheerful cards in the mail, or when I participate in partnering with Operation Smile through Close To My Heart stamp sets that I am choosing to share something good, even if it seems very small. A smile really does make the world a brighter place. Here’s to sharing more smiles and making a difference.

I will be sharing another new project with the “You’re The Bomb” Stamp Set tomorrow, so come back and enjoy another fun project to smile about.

It’s kind of like a Mystery Hostess Gathering, but all online. Everyone who places an order that month and attaches their order to my online gathering will be entered in the drawing.

So this month you get double the possibilities on free CTMH products…

there are free items with your $50 and $100 order,

plus you can be entered into the drawing for more free items.

While you are shopping, be sure to check out the specials from Close To My Heart this in May, too. Of course it is National Scrapbooking Month and Close To My Heart knows how to celebrate. They have designed this amazing paper packet, “Free To Be Me,”  just for May and you can get the pack for only $5 with your $50 order.

The paper looks like this with all exclusive colors, background papers, textured cardstocks, and printed vellum. Aren’t those fabulous gold foil polka-dots on that first sheet of vellum paper. I have had lots of fun creating with it.

To add to the $5 Studio J fun for this month,

I have two give-away specials that you can get in on,

just by placing a Studio J order on my website. Check them out at the end of this post.

Needless to say, with that great deal on $5 Studio J Layouts,  I am having a blast creating scrapbook pages and ordering photos to add to my albums. I thought I would share a couple of pictures of what I’m working today. I’m actually working on two things today, Studio J scrapbook pages and photo only pages from Studio J for my classic scrapbook pages, and Picture My Life album. These screen shots are not terrific, however you will see what it looks like in Studio J when you are creating layouts. (And I’ll post pictures of the completed pages later so you can see the finished project.)

Here’s one of the Studio J scrapbook page I have been working on from the Lady Antebellum concert my daughter and I went to a couple of weeks ago.

Stuido J Lady A

And this is a photos only page of things I want to include in my Picture My Life album. This particular Picture My Life album tells my story as a Close To My Heart Consultant so there are pictures from workshops, Scrapbook Groups, Creative Hearts Team gatherings, and some of my projects.

Stuido J Photos Only

Here is another photo only page, but these photos are sized to fit the photo spots on classic scrapbook pages I have made for my spring adventures with Sophie. We are loving the sunshine and warmer weather so we can be outside and enjoy longer walks with lots of exploring.

I love this option because I can order prints of my photos that are already sized and scaled to fit into my Picture My Life album pages or my classic scrapbook pages. It’s so much better than printing pictures and then cropping them down to fit spaces. With Studio J you can make the subject of the photograph sized to fit the space and get a much nicer photo scaled to fit your scrapbook pages.

If you have not tried the photos only pages, go to the Express Kits section of Studio J and you will find layouts already put together for you to drop your photos into the photo wells and order to print. When they arrive you simply cut them apart and add them to your projects. It’s great.

Speaking of “when they arrive,” that’s one of the best parts. It’s so fun when the box of layouts comes to my doorstep and I can just slip those beautiful pages right into albums. It’s like an instant album full of some of my favorite stories. What a great way to be preserving all those shared moments and treasured memories. Now is the time to give Studio J a try if you have not explored this terrific scrapbooking option yet. You can click here to get started. And if you are familiar with Studio J you want to be sure to order the pages you have been working on before March 31.

But wait, there’s more….

Here are the March Give-Aways that I have available for you to participate in and get more FREE CTMH products.

March Give-Away

1. For every 5 Studio J layouts you order by March 31 your name will be entered into a drawing for a FREE 12 x 12 CTMH My Legacy Album of your choice. You can order any combination of Studio J layouts or photo only pages as long as you have at least five. Order additional layouts in multiples of five and your name will be entered again. The more layouts you complete the more chances you have at winning the free album to put those fabulous pages in.

2. For every order you place on my website in March (Studio J or any online order) you will be entered into a special Mystery Hostess drawing for a FREE Close To My Heart shopping spree. When you go to check out and place your order you will see a message asking you if you would like to connect your order to a gathering. Just click on the “Michelle’s March Online Shopping” and your order will be added to that gathering, making you a possible Mystery Hostess with free products from this month’s drawing.

Remember Studio J is free to use and experiment with. You only purchase the pages you want to add to your album and for one more week they are only $5 for a complete layout. Get it on the fun and get in on the special price and give-aways this month. Have fun with.
